10 European candies that are way better than American candies
Category: Food & Drink
There's a myth that European chocolate tastes better than the ones you can purchase at CVS stateside (it's arguably true since European chocolate has a higher fat and cocoa content), but is there other European candy that's better than American sweets? Why does it all taste so damn good? We set out to investigate and found 10 European sweets that have our American offerings beat every time. Don’t be mad at us — we still love American treats! We’re just giving you another reason to take that end-of-summer Euro trip you’ve been dreaming of. 1. Aero It's simple, but positively scrummy (as former Great British Bake-Off judge Mary Berry would say). Aero is just milk chocolate (and air pockets - and nothing else. Still, it's light, tastes perfect, and provides just the right amount of pick-me-up when you're sleepy. 2. Smarties In the U.K., Smarties are small chocolate dots that are coated in a crunchy, colorful, sugary shell. Sound like M&Ms? Pretty much, but they come in a wider range of colors, are a bit smaller, and include that delicious British chocolate. 3. Kinder Surprise Kinder Surprise eggs (from Italian brand Ferrero) are banned in the U.S. due to laws prohibiting candy containing toys milk and white chocolate that’s so GD creamy, you *almost* won’t notice the prize. There's good news for chocolate lovers, though: A new version of Kinder Surprise, called Kinder Joy, will be available in the U.S. next year. 4. Mars bar Mars bars are similar to our Milky Ways, but they're made with a rich caramel and a hint of nougat, and coated in creamy milk chocolate. 5. Prince Polo A crisp, light wafer surrounded by dark chocolate? Poland's sweet treat is reminiscent of Kit Kats, but with the fatter, tastier chocolate Europe is known for. 6. Milka Milka chocolate bars are tender in the middle for a satisfying snack. Amazon has a box of 10 for $18.98. 7. Ptasie Mleczko This Polish treat, which translates to "bird's milk," consists of a fluffy, marshmallow-like meringue center surrounded by melted chocolate. 8. Mr. Fizzy Fizzing hard candies were born in Ukraine, and it's still unclear why they haven't made their way to the United States yet. 9. Plopp It may sound unappetizing, but this Swedish chocolate bar is filled with soft caramel. Can you ask for anything better? 10. CaramBar Every one of these chewy caramels is accompanied by a joke on the inside of the wrapper - and they're usually delightfully (and painfully) bad.
