Permanent Make Up procedure requires proper technique, knowledge and experience. Here we are going to briefly repeat all needle configurations, their definitions and usage. Selection of the needle configuration for the specific procedure is very important. Technicians who were introduced to tattooing techniques using traditional needles that have limited configuration combinations (compared to what PMU market offers today)feelingsometime hard to switch to working with new techniques involving the use of new needle combinations.The advice is to go ahead and try out the new ways as well. Those Permanent Makeup technicians who started their career from Body Tattooing have some advantages, as they have already learned wide range of the different needle configurations and its properties. I could see that some technicians using 1-prong needle to complete the full lip procedure…The point here is to inspire you to find out more effective ways to do the same work. 1-POINT NEEDLE. Many using it for performing the hair strokes technique. There is no problem with it if they doing this for some period and getting good result. Another needle configuration for this purpose is flat or slope. 1-point needle is best to produce very fine, thin edge lines(eyebrows , eyelids)for touch ups corrections. ROUND NEEDLE CONFIGURATION This configuration could be used for many purposes. I just want to remind here that is most effective usage of these needles when all needles in Round configuration penetrating the skin in the equal depth. It will be achieved when the needle placed at the 90 degree angleto the skin. There are two types of the Round needles- when particular number of the needles grouped close together -Round Liner. They are best for intensive lines. Thickness of lines decide the number of needles configurations( 5RL, 7RL etc) And the other type is when needles grouped with little space from each other -Round Shader. Those needles are good for filling small areas. The name for Round needles could be slightly different with different companies, but the principle is the same: Round Liner (closer needles) and Round Shader (needles with little gap) MAGNUM NEEDLE COFIGURATION Flat needles configuration in two lines. To any Tattoo Artist this configuration is well known for shading and filling usage. To achieve a soft gradient or solid filling the Magnum needles are very good to pick up. Soft or solid effect achieved using “circle filling” technique. FLAT NEEDLES Horizontal needle configuration in one line. The most suitableneedles for the hair stroke techniques (in horizontal use). For Shading and filling is best to apply circle filling technique. In both cases angles 90 or 45 degree will be suitable. I could add here hand method flat needles usage to achieve soft gradient effects for eyelid shadows, half-lips, camouflage and soft basecolor for eyebrows. SLOPE NEEDLES Wonderful needles for hair stroke eyebrowstechnique. Use at a 45 degree angle only in horizontal position, or apply “gradual lifting” technique from 45 degree to 90 degree to achieve soft end of the hair stroke.
