Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS) are a range of devices that enhance what we can see in low light conditions. Essentially, they allow us to see in the dark. Using an NVIS device, you can see objects, people and animals in total darkness as far away as up to 300 metres, (1000 ft) something that would be impossible with the naked eye. Night Vision cameras allow you to take photographs or videos of things that you would otherwise not even see. NVIS devices are extensively used by the armed forces for night operations, but they are also used by other organizations, such as law enforcement and search and rescue.
