A strong earthquake shook north India a little after 2:30 pm on Monday. Massive tremors were reported in Delhi, Kashmir, Haryana and Punjab. The Indian earthquake monitoring network reported an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Tremors were also reported in Pakistan. In Pakistan, local news channels showed people evacuating office buildings. There have been no reports so far of casualties. As per media in the Pakistani city of Lahore said phone lines were down following the quake. The region has a history of powerful earthquakes. In 2005, a magnitude 7.6 quake in Pakistan-administered Kashmir left more than 75,000 people dead.
