Familiarity with different types of absorption chillers and how they work
Category: Professional
What is an absorption chiller? Absorption Chiller uses the heat sent to the generator to supply the energy source. In the absorption cycle of this chiller, cold water production is done using direct flame, hot water and hot water vapor leaving the building. This cold water is sent to a fan coil or air conditioner to cool the environment. Compression chillers use electrical energy and absorption chillers use thermal energy. In the absorption cycle of absorption chillers, an adsorbent (lithium bromide) is used as a secondary fluid. The adsorbent is responsible for absorbing the gases obtained from the evaporation of the primary fluid (refrigerant). In the compression cycle using the compressor, a pressure difference is created. But the pressure difference in the absorption cycle is caused by a generator running on heat. The use of thermal energy reduces power consumption in absorption chillers. But in many absorption chillers, the cost of gas consumption increases due to the use of gas burners to provide the required heat.
