All couples who file for a mutual divorce are required to wait throughout the cooling-off period. During this time, the couple is given the chance to reflect on their relationship and possibly reunite. Generally speaking, the cooling-off phase lasts for six months, but there are certain exceptions. For instance, a shorter cooling-off period might be granted if one side can show that the other is at fault for the breakdown of the marriage.
