The infrastructure development of Kochi is taking place at a very fast pace. The Chief Minister of Kerala Mr. Oommen Chandy has a lot of plans exclusively for Kochi and the top priority ones are listed as follows. 1.Waste treatment plant – The city has been facing inadequacies in waste disposal for many decades and the CM’s announcement of a centralized waste treatment unit has raised the spirits of Kochitites. Estimation of the project report has already been started and Rs 5 crore has been allotted for the same. 2.Regional Cancer Centre – The need to construct Regional Cancer Center in Kochi is another matter of concern for a long time. Due to lack of political consensus, there has not been any progress until 2015,when CM announced constructing RCC for the city. The cancer centre is proposed to be build at Kalamassery and tender works have been initiated for the same. The cancer center will be of great help to the cancer patient residing in and around the suburbs of the city. 3.City Gas Project – It is a dedicated gas pipeline work which will be capable of providing cooking gas to the households of Kochi. The land acquisition formalities for laying extensive pipe networks have already begun. 4.Cleaning of canals – Kochi is criss-crossed with canals which were once used for local navigation decades back. At present these canals serve as waste-bins and are filled with domestic waste and other disposed materials and unwanted stuffs. Hence most of the canals are stagnant due to very less water-flow. The cleaning project will cleanse the canals off the accumulated waste and hence get rid of water stagnation.There are plans to construct floating markets in the canals after the cleaning work being done.
