The calculation of stroke volume is done by subtracting blood volume present in the ventricle at every beat’s end (called end-systolic volume) from the blood volume just before the beat (called end-diastolic volume). Stroke volume is equally applicable to both left and right ventricle of heart. The two stroke volume is usually similar and measures around 70 ml in a healthy human body of 70kg. Stroke volume is also considered as an important cardiac output determinant as cardiac output is the byproduct of heart rate and stroke volume. Stroke volume has been found to reduce in case of diseases or other related conditions and hence it is said to correlate with cardiac function.
