Phacoemulsification is a modern surgical technique used to remove cataracts. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the cornea, and a tiny probe is inserted into the eye. This probe emits ultrasound waves to break up the cloudy lens into small fragments. These fragments are then gently suctioned out of the eye.
