Reasons of no arc striking with plasma digital cutters

Category: Academics

The stability of grass cutting machine power supply for digital cutter can directly affect cutting quality. If the plasma arc is unstable, it may result in uneven cutting edge, knob, etc. and may also shorten the life of related components of the control system, and thus frequent replacement of spray nozzle and electrode. Through some research and analysis, I conclude with the following typical reasons why plasma digital cutters sustain no arc striking:

1.Too high air pressure

If the inlet air pressure far exceeds 0.45MPa, after plasma arc is formed, the strong air flow will blow away centralized arc stream, and scatter the arc stream energy, mitigating the cutting strength of plasma arc. Too high air pressure may be caused by: inappropriate regulation of inlet air, the threshold of air filter reducing valve is set too high, or failure of air filter reducing valve.

2.Too low air pressure

When the sheet cutting machine works, if the working air pressure is far below that given in the instructions, it means plasma arc’s ejection speed slows down, and inlet air flow rate is lower than the given value. So high energy and speed plasma arc cannot be formed, thus resulting in poor cutting edge quality, insufficient cutting, knob, etc. Reasons of insufficient air temperature include: insufficient inlet air into air compressor, the threshold of air regulating valve for the cutter is set too low, oil stain in the electro-magnetic valve, unclear air route, etc.

3.Loose contact between groundwire and workpiece

Earthing is indispensible preparation before cutting. Loose contact between groundwire and workpiece may be caused by lack of dedicated earthing tools, insulators on the workpiece, and long-term use of aged groundwire, etc.
