The Best Laid Plans
Category: Professional
A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week. Many of us don’t agree with George.S.Patton. There is always a strategic shift when it comes to execution or implementation of a plan. The plan in any company or firm will never be set in stone. The goals may be final, but the method to approach it, how, when, where and who are variables in the what constant, require regular upgrading to meet upcoming challenges. Often in the rush to meet a specific goal that is easier to understand, companies compromise on the larger picture that has potentially brighter and bigger returns. For any business to succeed a rock solid work structure with defined roles distributed among players and time bound targets makes implementation easier. A long term, well clubbed and researched idea with realistic means to fructify it, eases the transition from idea to action. It is a step-by-step process involving team members, constant monitoring, the contribution of leaders or managers who provide guidance, and support. A strategic idea is not your friend. It is in place to garner quantifiable returns. It is value addition at the core helping build better standards, setting an example for the future. Despite resembling stumbling blocks in the beginning, an educated regular effort over a pre-determined span of time, makes employees not compliant but participative, and willing to contribute. Often a well devised strategy fails because of 1. Lack of follow-up 2. Loss of nerve or preparedness 3. No back-up; And simply all things considered and notwithstanding, Lack of Performance. Getting into a schedule of performing tasks opens new opportunities that were invisible before, and much needed tweaking and tackling comes naturally as the process matures and turns into discipline followed without effort. Often people operate under an assumed belief that following a structure over a continued period will bring in the necessary results, with no extra efforts. This however, is a study in stagnation, as loss of time, repetition of tasks, delay in producing deliverables, lack of team cohesion or peer support and the like, do nothing but leave the company/firm out of active competition. The market is a very transparent place and information seeps in and out with relative ease. Instead of being affronted by a visible lack of effort, a team manager should motivate, provide incentives and ensure a seat at the table. A satisfied/happy employee can revolutionize to become the think tank of any team. Innovation then becomes a norm and brainstorming a fun-filled activity. A winning Public Relations structure works very much the same; inclusion, interest and innovation. What you can relate to, doesn’t appear like a far-away job that needs to meet a deadline. Instead it transforms into a puzzle eager to be solved only to give more clues to an interesting game of treasure hunt. All in all, even the best laid plans can fail and an average plan with excellent implementation can put you ahead in the game. Time is a crucial ally and a biting enemy. Use it wisely. Devise. Distribute. Deliver.
