Anti-anginal drugs are vital in the management of heart disease because they ease chest pain and improve blood supply to the heart. They do this by either decreasing the heart‘s oxygen demand or by increasing oxygen supply to the myocardium. They include nitrates, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers. When used with modification of risk factors they are very effective at controlling symptoms, improving quality of life and preventing serious cardiovascular complications.
